We don't have San Diego Comic-Con, but the exclusives are (maybe) easier to nab
Welcome back to Important Toy News, the SYFY WIRE column that shows you all the best and coolest happenings in the world of amazing toys and collectibles for the week.
It’s summertime, my friends, and that typically means San Diego Comic-Con time. Or as my friends and I like to call it, Nerd Summer Camp.
Seriously, I know I speak for many of us when I say we wish we were on that show floor. But, even in the face of this pandemic, toy manufacturers and sellers are managing to stay pretty optimistic and still generate some Summer Toy Exclusives that dangle like juicy peaches from the thirsty branches of the SDCC tree.
So today, fellow toy lovers, we’re going to check out some more exclusives (freshly announced!) that you don’t have to go all the way to San Diego to (potentially) procure!
Entertainment Earth
JOKER IN THE BOX
Let’s kick it off strong with one of my favorite toy sellers: Entertainment Earth. It's touting some exclusive items that are too good to ignore.
Can you say Surprise?! The Clown Prince of Crime comes to you in the form of a classic jack-in-the-box! Something Mr. J would totally spring on ol' Batsy! THE JOKER — with playing card in hand — jumps right out at you after "Pop! Goes the Weasel" plays when you turn the crank on this insanely colorful jack-in-the-box!
It's a limited edition of 6,138 pieces that comes with an individually numbered holographic sticker, so you'd better order yours right away!
BATPIN BEPINS
Holy neato vehicles, Batman! This cute wooden Batcycle from the 1966 tv show is something that would charm both old-school Batman fans and completists alike! That's why this awesome 2-inch scale Batman Classic TV Series Batcycle with Batman and Robin Pin Mates – Convention Exclusive is such a terrific find that you can't afford to pass up.
Per Entertainment Earth, it is “Modeled after the Batman Classic TV Series, the retro-styled BATCYCLE™ is made of wood, just like the included BATMAN and ROBIN Pin Mates." This set is a limited edition of 3,048 pieces, each with an individually numbered holographic sticker. So, if you don't want to miss out, get one now!
DAM GOOD BOBBLEHEAD
"Diane, 11:30 AM, February 24th. Entering the town of Twin Peaks."
You know you're entering Twin Peaks when you see so many trees and so many iconic images all in one place, or in this case, all in one incredible diorama bobblehead! Measuring a little over 5 1/2-inches tall by 5-inches wide by 3 1/4-inches deep, the Twin Peaks Icons Bobble Head with Enamel Pin Set #1 – Entertainment Earth Exclusive is designed to resemble a booth in the iconic Double R Diner and features unforgettable moments like the town sign bearing the words "Welcome to Twin Peaks — Population 51,201," the Log Lady's log, a slice of delicious cherry pie, a cup of that "damn good coffee," Special Agent Dale Cooper's tape recorder, and, of course, an owl.
NECA
MUTANT NOT-TURTLES
Freshly announced from NECA are some awesome announcements in its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cartoon line. While there is no preordering information available yet, we can enjoy them from afar.
Five new figures have been announced: Muckman and Joe Eyeball (which are OK, if you ask me), Mondo Gecko (which is so totally radical that my neon-loving heart can’t deal), as well as Vernon and Rat King. For me, Vernon and Rat King are the standouts in this line. They look so beyond perfect it’s like they stepped right out of the cartoon.
Super7
HEROES IN AN OOZE TUBE
Let’s give some love to the darlings of the toy world, Super7. I simply adore this company and everything that it does. This is why it’s no surprise that its newly announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles SDCC exclusive is so freakin’ exciting.
And you know what else? It’s not slime, it’s ooze! The same Radioactive Mutagen Ooze that mutated the Green Teens to life, right at your fingertips! That’s right — this four-pack with Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michaelangelo, cast in Glow-in-the-Dark plastic, comes packaged inside a deluxe tin Ooze Canister!
This set costs $75 and can be ordered today.
Hasbro
VINZ CLORTOY (REAL GHOSTBUSTERS HEADS KNOW)
It wouldn’t be San Diego Comic-Con without some amazing announcements from Hasbro. And believe me, it did not disappoint.
Newly revealed today, we have the newest addition to the Ghostbusters Plasma Series — "Tully’s Terrible Night." You don’t have to collect six action figures to build a Terror Dog now! All you have to do is live out Louis Tully’s nightmare in this delightfully charming two-pack. I am such a huge Rick Moranis fan — between him and Robin Williams, my childhood was sublime perfection.
So far, I like the Ghostbusters Plasma Series, though the only one I’ve purchased and reviewed is my beautiful Egon Spengler. But Louis Tully was very much missed when the line was announced, so we are ecstatic to see him announced today! This set will be added to Hasbro Pulse in September 2020.
LORD DRAKKTION FIGURE
Power Rangers gets dark and spooky with a new 6-inch Lightning Collection figure from Hasbro. It’s the looming, evil Lord Drakkon, and he keeps the helmets of defeated Power Rangers as his trophies.
The terrifying Boom! comic villain transforms from Evolution to Evolution as he gains more power, eventually becoming a Black Ranger, reflecting Tommy’s final Ranger form as Dino Thunder Black. This figure will be a Hasbro Pulse exclusive, costs $49.99, and will be available for preorder in September 2020.
MARVEL AT THESE LEGENDARY TOYS
Also announced from Hasbro are some new Marvel Legends packs. And trust me, all of them look fantastic! Kicking off strong, we have Hasbro Marvel Design and 13 Accessories Legends Series X-Men 6-inch Collectible Deadpool and Negasonic Teenage Warhead Action Figure Toys. This two-pack has tons of accessories, ships October 2020, and costs $49.99.
Next up in the Hasbro reveals is Domino! This quality, 6-inch Legends Series X-Men Domino figure features multiple points of articulation and is a great addition to any action figure collection. With the mutant power to manipulate probabilities, the odds are always in Domino’s favor. She comes with a bunch of accessories, costs $24.99, and is available for preorder today.
Last but not least is a beautiful two-pack — 6-inch Marvel’s Hawkeye and Marvel’s Logan figures, inspired by the characters from the Marvel comics. A lifetime of fighting battles in the epic war of good vs. evil has left Hawkeye and Logan somber and wearied. I prefer seasoned and exceedingly handsome! This pack costs $49.99, ships October 2020, and is available for preorder today.
