Samuel L. Jackson hints that Captain Marvel can travel through time

Editor’s Note: Samuel L. Jackson has fooled us once again — several weeks after this article was published, the actor revealed that he was joking around and made up facts about Captain Marvel’s powers, including time travel.

While SYFY WIRE has launched its own extensive reporting from the set of Captain Marvel today, another media outlet on its own visit to the production has relayed a fascinating and possibly revelatory bit of info from the one and only Samuel L. Jackson.

Entertainment Tonight apparently also dropped by the set of the new Marvel Studios movie. During an interview with Jackson — who plays a young Nick Fury in the film, before he lost his eye and became director of S.H.I.E.L.D. — ET asked the legendary actor why Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) is the right character to star in her own solo movie.

"She’s pretty much the strongest character — in terms of someone with powers are able to do things — in the Marvel universe. So, for Carol Danvers to be that person and for Brie to become that person, it's gonna be a dynamite thing," said Jackson. "I mean, [the Avengers] are up against some really, really tough odds right now — we saw throughout Infinity War — so now we know that we need something that's as powerful as Thanos. And at some point, we'll find out how powerful she is and all the things that she's capable of. She's one of the few people in the Marvel universe that can time-travel, so ..."

Wait a minute — Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, can travel through time? It's been established for a while now in the comics, not to mention the pre-release hype for the movie, that Carol is indeed one of the most powerful beings in the cosmos. But as far as we know, the ability to travel through time is not one of the many powers she is bestowed with.

So what gives? Is Jackson just pulling our collective leg (not out of character for the man)? Is he confusing one of Carol's powers for another? Or did he mean to say that Carol is almost indestructible enough to survive a trip through time, perhaps via the Quantum Realm?

Based on what little we know about the plot of Avengers: Endgame — in which Carol will play a major role — it seems probable that time travel, the Quantum Realm, or some combination of both could play a role in undoing the decimation that Thanos has brought to the universe. Perhaps only Captain Marvel is durable enough to make that journey, if we dig deeper into Jackson's remark.

Either way, this is just one of many interesting revelations now surfacing as we get closer to Captain Marvel's March 8 release date.
