WIRE Buzz: Raised By Wolves first ep free on YouTube; Chadwick Boseman tribute heads to Disney+; Mandibles
Those interested in blasting off to a distant world filled with strife and android parents are in luck: HBO Max has put the entire first episode of its new sci-fi show, Raised by Wolves, on YouTube for free.
The series from creator Aaron Guzikowski and director/EP Ridley Scott stars a pair of robots (played by Amanda Collin and Abubakar Salim) and humans (Niamh Algar and Travis Fimmel) looking to start humanity over after a religious war ruined Earth. However, old grudges stand and parenting philosophies are quite different, to say the least. And on an alien world, you never know what you’ll run into.
Check out the pilot:
Crazy, but of a piece with stuff like Scott’s Alien series and Blade Runner, right? There’s even a little bit of The Martian thrown in there for spacey flavor. But to get all the twists and turns, fans will have to turn to streaming.
The first three episodes of Raised by Wolves are on HBO Max now.
Next, the ABC special made to honor late actor Chadwick Boseman — Chadwick Boseman: A Tribute for a King – A Special Edition of 20/20 — is headed to streaming.
The special, which looked back on the Black Panther star’s all-too-short career and cultural impact, topped ratings after the actor’s death earlier this week from cancer. Aftering airing on Aug. 30, it’s now available on Disney+ as a special feature to Black Panther so that those who missed or want to revisit the special can watch.
The special comes hosted by Robin Roberts and executive-produced by Steven Baker, and features tributes from Boseman’s co-stars, friends, fans, and others who’ve felt the impact of his groundbreaking career.
In a separate tribute to Boseman, Marvel Studios' Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding designed a new piece posted by Marvel yesterday.
The piece depicts Boseman as Black Panther with the film's ancestral plane on T’Challa’s suit, while also portraying the late hero giving his 2018 commencent speech at Howard University.
Finally, one of the strangest filmmakers working today has a new movie coming to genre fans, and that movie features one very large fly.
Mandibles, the upcoming film from French director Quentin Dupieux (he also did killer tire movie Rubber), is a road trip comedy about a pair of schmucks (Grégoire Ludig and David Marsais) that find a giant fly in their trunk. Their first instinct? Use it to turn a quick buck.
Take a look at the first trailer:
Jeff Goldblum, eat your heart out. The stoner comedy might not be The Fly, but it’s certainly chomping some of that creature-feature flavor—and stuff like Paul that blends offbeat humor and sci-fi antics. The film, appearing in competition at the Venice Film Festival, also stars Adèle Exarchopoulos, Coralie Russier, India Hair, and Romeo Elvis.
Mandibles looks to hit French theaters on Dec. 2.
