After the first trailer for HBO Max's upcoming android-centric space adventure Raised by Wolves blew everyone's minds (as it should with legendary genre director Ridley Scott helming the first two episodes), the latest look at the series helps introduce the show's core concept. The Earth has been ruined and the two surviving factions of humanity are split along religious lines: there is the devout sect on their Ark and the atheistic group that's left its future in the hands of Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim) androids.

The question now is, will the war continue even on this new planet? Well, if human history is anything to go by, the answer is a resounding "Yes." Too bad that only one side seems to have a mega-badass android like Mother. The new footage from the series looks at how she is not only in charge of raising an entire subsection of humankind, but in charge of protecting them from their own species.

Take a look:

Those in the religious order, notably led by ex-soldier Marcus (Travis Fimmel) and his medic wife Sue (Niamh Algar), want the kids away from the robots. In their minds, it's a sin that they're being raised by... well, not by "wolves" exactly, but you get the point. That means a new conflict is already here on top of the social experiment — and that's no environment for a child to grow up in.

The trailer also showcases a few of the more technical elements of the show: the Crusade-like army uniforms of the religious humans, the pods aboard their spaceship, the powers of Mother. This series looks to have plenty of layers to its conflict as things ramp up — and its children start to ask questions.

The rest of the cast includes Winta McGrath, Felix Jamieson, Ethan Hazzard, Jordan Loughran, Aasiya Shah, and Ivy Wong. Raised by Wolves is created and written by Aaron Guzikowski.

Raised by Wolves' starts its ten-episode run when it hits HBO Max on Sept. 3.
