Pixar reveals new original film 'Luca,' a sea monster adventure through the Italian Riviera
Pixar will head to the Italian Rivieria next summer for a new feature film entitled Luca. Helmed by Enrico Casarosa (director of the 2011 Oscar-winning short "La Luna"), the movie is described as a coming-of-age tale about the eponymous young boy, who enjoys an unforgettable summer filled with Italian staples: gelato, pasta, and scooter rides.
Luca shares all of these experiences with a new friend, but he harbors a dangerous secret: he's a sea monster from another world that exists just below the water's surface.

“This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in Luca,” Casarosa said in a statement. “So in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca.”
Andrea Warren ("Lava," Cars 3) is producing the flick. It's unclear who is writing the screenplay.
Luca is scheduled to swim into theaters everywhere June 18, 2021.
