The American Revolution looms large over 'Outlander' in full trailer for Season 6 on Starz
Outlander returns for Showtime for its sixth season on Sunday, March 6.
The British are coming! The British are coming! ... in the official Season 6 trailer for Outlander on Starz. The hit series (developed by executive producer Ronald D. Moore) will make its return to the premium cable network in early March — nearly two years after the conclusion of its fifth installment. Don't worry about waiting around for more episodes to come out, though, because Outlander got an early Season 7 renewal in spring of last year when production on the forthcoming batch kicked off in Scotland.
As Season 6 opens, the powder keg in the New World colonies is about to explode into open warfare between the English and the Americans. We've all sat through this history lesson before, though Claire (Caitríona Balfe) knows what is truly at stake here better than anyone else. Will her and other characters' knowledge of the future affect the outcome of this pivotal moment in world events?
"I think Claire has always been able to compartmentalize things and move on, with that very 1940s can-do attitude," Balfe explained to Elle last month when asked about what audiences can expect from the new season. "She packs things up in a little box, she parks it, and she gets on with the rest of her life. And we see that she’s unable to use that coping mechanism, to get through this particular incident. So it’s really lovely to actually finally unpick her in a way, and find her core vulnerabilities. I think it’s the only way she can properly heal, because she has to find a new way of coping. She has to find a new way through."
At the same time, Jamie (Sam Heughan) struggles with his role in the impending fight, wondering how he can be a rebel and loyal "Agent of the Crown" all at the same time.

Appearing at New York Comic Con back in October, Heughan addressed the production hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, stating that it wasn't too difficult to step back into their characters once the cameras finally got rolling again.
“I think we’ve been doing it for quite a while now… after you’ve been back for half a day it’s like you never went away,” he said. "It’s like wearing an old glove, you just slip back into it.”
“As soon as you get your costume on or get your wig on, it just clicks in," added Balfe.
