Fox series 'NeXt' drops full trailer and new premiere date for its killer AI thrills
It's been a long time coming for NeXt, the Fox sci-fi show about a killer AI that had its premiere episode debut all the way back at last year's San Diego Comic-Con. Now, in the middle of Comic-Con@Home, the Manny Coto-created show is back on the docket after being held due to the pandemic — and fans can get a first look at all the robo-danger in its first full trailer.
The series stars John Slattery (Mad Men), Fernanda Andrade (The First), and plenty of near-future high-tech gizmos to fight (and perpetrate) cybercrime. "Having worked on 24 for so long, I said this is a great way to do a 24-like thriller with a race against time to stop an AI," Coto said at his 2019 SDCC panel. Now fans can check out what that AI is up to — though it won't be anything as overt as launching nukes or unleashing killer 'bots.
Take a look:
With explosions, spooky robotic greetings, and an Alexa gone bad, NeXt looks to make technophobes of genre fans around the world. It also finalized its fall premiere date for the high-tech drama.
An increasingly paranoid hero (who needs to team up with a cybercrime agent played by Fernanda Andrade) and an increasingly complex AI looks to be a fun battle between the minds...or mind-like things. Sure, creating a piece of tech so smart that it turns evil is a well-worn story — spanning everything from Frankenstein to Age of Ultron — but NeXt looks to fit it into the familiar setting of a TV procedural.
The series also stars Michael Mosley, Jason Butler Harner, Eve Harlow, Aaron Moten, Gerardo Celasco, Elizabeth Cappuccino, and Evan Whitten - many of whom can be seen talking NeXt at its Comic-Con@Home panel later today.
NeXt hits Fox on Oct. 6.
