Morbius: Jared Leto delivers special message to fans in new teaser for Sony and Marvel vampire flick

It's time to sink your fangs into a new teaser for Sony's Morbius movie, which comes nine months after the debut trailer released in January 2020. The minute-long teaser, which SYFY WIRE can confirm was specially made for Japan's Comic Con, is preceded by a special message from the project's star, Jared Leto.

"I think it's gonna be a fun one and I can't wait for you guys to see it," he said. "It's an exciting role and an expanding universe. There's a lot for all of us to look forward to. I'm happy here that everyone in Japan is doing well and that theaters are open. So don't miss Morbius in theaters in 2021."

The comic book-inspired Marvel flick from director Daniel Espinosa (Life) was originally slated to open in July 2020, but was pushed to spring 2021 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Featuring ties to the MCU in the form of Michael Keaton's Vulture, the movie features Leto as Michael Morbius, a brilliant scientist desperate to cure himself of a terminal blood disease. He succeeds, but ends up turning into a being with vampiric abilities and cravings. Using his newfound powers, Michael fights against supernatural enemies with sagely advice from his mentor (played by Jared Harris).

Morbius co-stars Matt Smith as Loxias Crown (aka Hunger, another "Living Vampire"), the main villain; Adria Arjona as Martine Bancroft, Michael's fiancée; and Tyrese Gibson as Simon Stroud, an FBI agent hunting down the new "bat-man" in town. The project joins Sony's growing slate of Spider-Verse projects like Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Tom Holland's Far From Home sequel. Olivia Wilde was recently hired to direct a feature that many have suspected is about Spider-Woman. Thanks to creative input from Marvel COO Kevin Feige, these films exist in the same continuity as the MCU (thought possibly a bit more MCU-adjacent).

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (the duo behind Dracula Untold) wrote the screenplay with Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (the duo behind the first Iron Man). Filling a Marvel-horror niche started by The New Mutants and Helstrom, Morbius will follow its echo location into theaters March 19, 2021.
