Casting: Lena Headey detonates Gunpowder Milkshake, Rebecca Hall boards new horror-thriller from David Goyer
First up in this edition of SYFY WIRE’s casting roundup, just as one gig wraps, another begins for Lena Headey. The actress who plays Circei Lannister on the hit HBO series Game of Thrones (which airs its final season this spring) will costar in Gunpowder Milkshake, an action-thriller directed by Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado of Big Bad Wolves fame.
Although details on the film and Headey’s role are scarce, Deadline, which first broke the news about Headey, describes Gunpowder Milkshake as “a high-concept action thriller with a rich mythology that revolves around a multi-generational ensemble cast.”
We also know that the film will star Karen Gillan (Avengers: Infinity War). So, there’s that. And, oh: The project has previously been described as an ultra-violent film within the assassin genre, with a cast that’s being envisioned as all-women.
Meanwhile, Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3) is set to star in The Night House, an indie horror film produced by Dark Knight scribe David S. Goyer.
According to Variety, David Bruckner will direct a script by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski. In The Night House, Hall plays a widow who uncovers disturbing secrets of her recently deceased husband. So, wow. Like the description of Gunpowder Milkshake, that's... pretty cryptic.
Anyway, production for The Night House is set to begin in May.
And finally, Locke & Key, the upcoming horror-fantasy series based on Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez's award-winning dark fantasy IDW comic book, has landed another regular cast member. A report from Variety announced that Petrice Jones (Step Up: High Water, Play the Devil) has been cast as a series regular for the upcoming show.
Jones will play, Scot, a huge horror-film buff and leader of “The Savini Squad,” a group of teens obsessed with the work of special-effects makeup artist Tom Savini.
He joins previously announced cast members Sherri Saum, Connor Jessup, Emilia Jones, and Jackson Robert Scott.
Locke & Key follows three siblings who move to Massachusetts after the murder of their father, where they learn that their new home hosts a set of magical keys, each of which gives the children a different ability. The problem, though, is that a demon also wants those keys, and will do whatever it takes to get them. (Finally, some details!)
Netflix ordered 10 episodes for Locke & Key four months after Hulu passed on making its own show based on the material.
