You can watch Alita: Battle Angel early or catch Black Panther again — for free: Here’s how

The filmmaker known for using the most cutting edge technologies for his movie has finally entered the 21st Century by hitting the social media trifecta. Yes, James Cameron now has a Facebook page and an Instagram account in addition to the Twitter profile he hardly ever uses.

The filmmaker signed up for two new social media profiles in order to announce free screenings of Alita: Battle Angel, a passion project he produced, but did not direct; the movie was overseen by Robert Rodriguez. Cameron also co-wrote the screenplay with Terminator Genisys' Laeta Kalogridis. 

"I finally joined Facebook and Instagram to share a very special announcement about @AlitaMovie. We are having a series of free early screenings on January 31st," Cameron wrote on Twitter, while linking to a FB video of him announcing the screenings, which will be held this week.

The sci-fi film, based on Yukito Kishiro's Gunnm manga, will play in 35 cities across the United States on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 7PM. Locations for the free screenings include San Francisco, Houston, Baltimore, Boston, Phoenix, Chicago, and Seattle. For a full list of where you can catch the movie early, click here.

Now that Cameron is on all of these social media websites, he'll hopefully start posting more teasers about his ambitious cinematic projects. In particular, we're hoping for a bunch of updates on all of those Avatar sequels!

Alita: Battle Angel opens in theaters everywhere on Thursday, Feb. 14. Rosa Salazar (Bird Box) stars as the eponymous character, leading an all-star ensemble of Christoph Waltz, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jennifer Connelly, and Jackie Earle Haley.

Alita won't be the only movie to offer free screenings, however. In honor of Black History Month in February, Disney will be showing Black Panther in 250 AMC theaters around the country for no charge at all. This is a limited time engagement that only runs between February 1-7, so if you're interested, you should book a seat (or seats) right here.

Last night, Black Panther made history when it became the first-ever superhero movie to win the top prize at the 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. The film could shatter another historical barrier if it takes home Best Picture at the 91st Oscars on Sunday, February 24; in any case. It is also nominated for Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Production Design, Costume Design, Score, and Song.
