Five reasons to tune in for the Wynonna Earp mid-season finale
We're only five episodes into Season 4 of Wynonna Earp, and honestly, friends, so much has happened that I feel like we need one of Waverly's notebooks to keep track of it all. (Not the blue one, though.)
Warning: Spoilers for Season 4 continue below this point, so read on at your own risk!
The Earp curse might officially be broken, and our friends might be back from the Garden, but there are so many more threats for Wynonna and team to deal with now — including a vengeful rival family known as the Clantons, who have their own long-running history with the Earps, as well as all the nasty evils that Margo Clanton (creepily referred to as "Mam") is capable of summoning.
And, as we just discovered on last Sunday's episode, our favorite ginger cop Nicole Haught seems to have made a deal with the Clanton matriarch to rescue her loved ones from the Garden, and now Mam is coming to collect in a big way. So Team Earp has another curse they need to break — and it might come at a cost. Meanwhile, Wynonna's on a mission to track down her wayward gun Peacemaker in order to take down her enemies, but what happens when a lost weapon may not want to be found?
Still with me, Earpers? OK. Here are a few reasons you're definitely going to want to tune in for the mid-season finale of Wynonna Earp (like you weren't planning to already!):
01. We know how this looks...
For the record, if there's anyone I would personally trust with my life in order to save me from barfing up amphibious creatures until the end of eternity, it's Jeremy Chetri and Randy Nedley chanting in a wolf skin. Whatever plan they've cooked up to free Nicole from the Clanton curse is a little more extreme than Waverly might have expected, though — I mean, it's not every day you walk in on your girlfriend literally being drowned in a metal bathtub — and in typical Wynonna Earp fashion, things don't necessarily go according to plan. What you can count on, though, is plenty of unexpected hijinks (and humor) as the gang works together to help save Nicole.
02. The return of Rosita
Trust Rosita to pop back up on the scene in classically epic fashion — emphasis on the fashion. (Seriously, where did she get that coat and do they make one in a tall?) But honestly, there are so many questions around this sudden reappearance. Why was she the scorned woman in the mysterious painting? Who scorned her? Does she know where Peacemaker is? And has she just been hanging out between a rock and a hard place for a season and a half — because, if so, her hair looks great. Rosita's return definitely throws a wrench into the mix — for Wynonna, especially, in part due to the whole baby-napping attempt back in Season 2.
03. Peacemaker's gone AWOL?
Speaking of Peacemaker, that gun-sword's been really tough to find lately. Not only did Wynonna find herself beamed up with some mysterious warrior nuns (which, can we get that crossover please?), but it turns out that Peacemaker might have actually refused to come out of hiding and rejected her. But if there's anything we know about our leading lady, it's that she's her own damn weapon, and sometimes, what she thinks she needs and what she actually needs to take down her enemies are two very different things.
04. History (and a friendship) gets reevaluated
Doc Holliday's been around for a long time — but a good chunk of that time was spent at the bottom of a well. So it makes sense that his view of the Wyatt Earp he knew, his best friend, might not be the version of Wyatt Earp that the rest of the world got to know in the years that followed. In watching that footage of Wyatt, Doc starts to come to the realization that maybe he needs to let go of certain aspects of his past — including his old friend — in order to take steps toward a more peaceful future, especially as it relates to that feud with the Clantons. But not everyone is going to feel the same way, and peace may be a harder ask than some are willing to agree to.
05. An emotional rollercoaster
It wouldn't be an episode of Wynonna Earp if we didn't go through all of the ups and downs together — like that GIF of the kid laughing and crying simultaneously. But that's the beauty of this show, right? One minute you're absolutely ecstatic, the next your heart is in your throat. It's what makes the journey so ultimately satisfying, getting to go on it with our favorite characters. Even if we know that there's going to be a brief pause before we have a chance to find out what happens in the second half of Season 4, we also know there's more in store for Wynonna, Waverly, Nicole, Doc, Jeremy, Nedley and the rest of the gang in Purgatory — and hopefully, some of your most burning questions will be answered by Sunday night!
The Wynonna Earp Season 4 mid-season finale, "Holy War Part 2," airs this Sunday at 10PM ET on SYFY.
