Fast Saga's Justin Lin Will "Never Say Never" to Anything Fast & Furious, Even a Jurassic World Crossover

If you're driving away from a hungry T. rex, the person you want behind the wheel is Dominic Toretto.

To quote Dr. Ian Malcolm: "Must go faster!" If you're being chased by a hungry T. rex, it might actually pay to have Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto and his loyal band of speed demons on your side. Appearing at a 2021 press conference in honor of Fast & Furious 9: The Fast Saga (now streaming on Peacock), longtime F&F writer/director Justin Lin was asked about a potential Fast & Furious crossover with the Jurassic World series (both properties are owned by Universal Pictures).

Longtime Fast Saga Director Not Opposed to Jurassic World Crossover Project

"I never say never to anything," he said via Collider. "Part of our philosophy is not to ever be boxed in or labeled. That’s all I will say."

"I’m all in! Once you reach a certain pinnacle, there’s nowhere to go, but to cross brand and merge," added Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Dom's wife, Letty. "It’s what big corporations do with each other when they get too big. You just have to brand and merge with each other. The only thing standing in the way is lawyers and studios. Usually, the brands that you’re trying to merge belong to different studios. But if it’s under the same umbrella, I don’t know. I’m just saying, it works."

SYFY WIRE broached the topic not long after during a one-on-one junket call with Lin over Zoom. "I don't want to distract but I love, that people get excited and everything," he told us. "I definitely said that in jest, but I think that is the spirit of Fast. We don't ever say no, but we talk through everything."

What Does Colin Trevorrow Think of a Fast & Furious Crossover with Jurassic World?

Jurassic World writer/director Colin Trevorrow, on the other hand, isn't a big fan of the inter-brand concept. "This idea is so new," the filmmaker told ComicBook.com in 2022. "That wasn't allowed when I was a kid, you didn't get to just like you did when you were playing with the toys, you smash them together. Now it's like, well whatever your parent company happens to own, you can (use)."

If you were to twist Trevorrow's arm, though, he'd choose a crossover with the Bourne or Purge series — both of which are available to own from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. While the studio has no current plans to merge the two IPs, it is hard at work on new installments of both. Fast X will receive two sequels, one of which will see the return of Dwayne Johnson's government agent, Luke Hobbs. Not much is known about either title at the moment, though we do know Louis Leterrier is returning as director for the eleventh (and possibly final) chapter in the main franchise.

Meanwhile, a fourth Jurassic World adventure — written by David Koepp (scribe of Jurassic Park and The Lost World) and directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) — is slated for a wide theatrical bow next July. The next installment in the dino-centric saga will feature the acting talents of Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, and Jonathan Bailey.

Fast & Furious 9: The Fast Saga is now streaming on Peacock.
