Did Eternals star Don Lee just inadvertently give us our first look at the upcoming Marvel film?
With the MCU on hold amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Marvel fans will take whatever teasers they can get in the current parched landscape of Hollywood marketing. Thanks to Don Lee, we may have our very first look at a piece of promotional material for Chloé Zhao's Eternals film.
Posting on Instagram, Lee (who is playing the character of Gilgamesh) showed off a care package he received from Marvel Studios. The Disney-owned company welcomed him into the ever-growing comic book mythos with a small letter, a bottle of champagne, and, most importantly, a framed portrait of what looks to be the titular cosmic characters grouped together with strange lights (could it be the Celestial known as Eson the Searcher?) in the sky above them. We'd say it resembles the kind of poster you'd get for free after a Comic Con panel.
In case you needed an X-Files-type enhancement of the image, here you go:
Written by Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo, Eternals is based on the characters created by the late great Jack Kirby. They're ancient, Celestial-created aliens who have been secretly living on Earth for thousands of years. When tragedy strikes after the events of Avengers: Endgame, The Eternals must come out of the shadows in order to defeat their most ancient of enemies: The Deviants.
Lee is just one small part of a larger ensemble that includes: Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, and Kit Harrington.
Originally slated to open this November, Eternals was bumped to Feb. 12 of next year to make room for Black Widow. Natasha Romanoff's standalone feature is set to open in theaters Friday, Nov. 6.
