Chosen One of the Day: Loki's high ponytail
Ariana Grande has turned the high pony into high art. What started out as a way to handle her bleach-damaged hair from Victorious has become her trademark, bringing the petite singer to new heights. You know what they say: the higher the hair, the closer to God… or gods, in this case.
Which, of course, makes it perfect for one genderfluid god of mischief. That’s right, Loki Laufeyson, ne’er-do-well child of Asgard, has been spotted around the pages of Infinity Wars tossing that midnight mane into a high pony.
It’s a ponytail that does two things. First, it’s a fantastic visual reference to Loki’s classic Silver Age look—you know, the green Zentai suit with gold and yellow accents? His impressive helm boasted not only two horns, but a golden ponytail of varying material. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has seemingly ensured that Loki will always err on the side of hot, but combining a high ponytail with the sleeker helm of latter day Loki is a brilliant way to capture the silhouette without recalling Old Loki.
Second, it absolutely captures Loki’s personality. Coquettish and battle-ready? Keeps your hair out of your face and horns while also allowing you to flick it like a horse’s mane as dramatic punctuation? (It’s all in the neck, folks!) Honestly, I’d already been dreaming about a high ponytail for Loki long before this was committed to the page, because it just makes sense.
A high pony is high drama, and there is no drama higher than Loki.
