Tom Holland, Daisy Ridley star in first trailer for long-delayed sci-fi epic 'Chaos Walking'
Chaos Walking, the sci-fi project that Lionsgate executives once deemed "unreleasable," just unleashed its first, Annihilation-y trailer onto the world. Helmed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow), the film adapts Patrick Ness's award-winning 2008 novel, The Knife of Never Letting Go.
The story takes place on another planet, where there are no more women left...or at least that's what Todd Hewitt (the MCU's Tom Holland) has been raised to believe. His entire worldview is thrown into doubt when a young woman named Viola Eade (Star Wars' Daisy Ridley) crash-lands on humanity's new homeworld. In this future, all living things (except Viola) are affected by "the Noise," a force that puts one's inner thoughts on display. So long privacy! When Viola is threatened, Todd vows to protect her, unlocking his own power and the planet's secrets in the process.

So what is Todd's special power? From watching the trailer, it seems like he can actually will his thoughts into existence if he thinks on them hard enough. Viola can fully realize his potential, but that doesn't sit well with the movie's villain, David Prentiss (Hannibal's Mads Mikkelsen), leader of the all-male society. And if that wasn't enough for ya, it sounds like there's some sort of invasion on the way, too.
The most recent update on the movie's status came from co-star Mads Mikkelsen, who, in a recent interview with Empire Magazine, admitted that he did some final ADR for the project not too long ago. "Doug works on a different level than the rest of us," he said. "He's so f—ing special and creative and you just have to hang in there when he's talking about stuff and say, 'I think I got it, Doug. Let's do it.' What I saw looked really amazing."
Demián Bichir (The Nun), Cynthia Erivo (The Outsider), Nick Jonas (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), and David Oyelowo (The Midnight Sky) make up the rest of the impressive cast for the project, which was originally slated to open in March 2019. Lionsgate was reportedly not pleased with the initial cut, as Liman has a penchant for shooting a lot of disparate elements and "finding" his movies during the editing process. The studio then brought on Don't Breathe director Fede Alvarez to help with an extensive round of reshoots.
Doug Davison, Allison Shearmur, Erwin Stoff, and Alison Winter serve as producers.
