TBS pays tribute to Chadwick Boseman by airing Black Panther tonight and Sunday
Following the sudden news of Chadwick Boseman's tragic death, TBS will pay tribute to the Black Panther actor by airing the Marvel movie twice this weekend.
The first airing will take place on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 9 p.m. to midnight ET, followed by the second one on Sunday, Aug. 30, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET.
Boseman played the titular role of King T'Challa, the ruler of the fictional African nation of Wakanda, in the movie, which saw his character deal with his father's death and step into the legacy of the Black Panther as he navigated his responsibility to his people (as Wakanda's protector) and the larger role the country played in the world. Boseman first originated the role in Captain America: Civil War, and later reprised it in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
Not only is the film a cultural touchstone, marking the first time a Black superhero was the lead of a Marvel movie, and the first time a Black director (Ryan Coogler) had helmed one, but the character of the Black Panther itself is notable for being the first superhero of African descent in mainstream superhero comics.
Black Panther will air on TBS on Aug. 29 at 9 p.m. ET and later on Aug. 30 at 8 p.m. ET. It can also be streamed on Disney+.
