Celebrate the apocalypse with the most angelic Good Omens fanfiction
Welcome to Read This Fanfiction, a weekly digest of the hottest and latest fanfics about all your favorite movies, television shows, anime, and more. Whether they're popular, heartbreaking, innovative, or just plain entertaining, here's what you should be reading!
Potentially the most anticipated television premiere this side of Game of Thrones is Amazon's adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's utterly charming tale of a demon, an angel, and the apocalypse. Good Omens is now available on Amazon Prime and is already being hailed as one of the best things to ever grace our screens.
The Good Omens fandom is one that's been prolific and active since day one, and despite it being many years since the book came out, no one has ever tired of Crowley and Aziraphale. If you've binged all that Amazon has to offer and already re-read the book for the 42nd time, why not try out our extended list of fics in the Omens-verse? You'll thank us later.
"Crown of Thorns [The Walls, the Wainscot, and the Mouse] 'Verse" by irisbleufic
"D'you realize," [Crowley] said, "that we never tire of things humans get bored with on the regular?"
Aziraphale shrugged, lazily basking. "I've always assumed it's that we don't tire of each other."
"Will You Do The Fandango" by Rethira
In which the Apocalypse Mark Two is averted by a bucket of holy water, a hosepipe and Crowley answering the door with no trousers on.
Alternatively, in which Aziraphale is Actually Scarier Than The Devil.
"Ornithorhynchus Anatinus" by universityofwhales
The boys don't know what a platypus is, and at this point, they're too afraid to ask
"Better Than A Win" by Aria
Aziraphale would have missed (or perhaps deliberately ignored) the nuance of together, but Crowley was a man-shaped being of the world, and knew what was being asked. "We've been around since -- for a while," he said. "But it's not like that."
"The Temptation of Aziraphale, or How to Lose a Flaming Sword Without Really Trying" by kungfunurse
Crowley gets kidnapped and dragged back to Hell. It's up to Aziraphale to rescue him.
"Future Imperfect" by jane_potter
On the second day of the rest of their lives, everything goes right to hell. Crowley spends a long time picking up the pieces, but it's not until twelve years later, in a little cottage in the South Downs, that the last one finally slides back into place.
TV
"washing day" by lalaietha
Hailed by many as Jim Henson's true masterpiece, The Dark Crystal is a nostalgic gem in many of our hearts. Now having had a good look at what the new series from Netflix has in store, we're even more excited. As we still have to wait a smidge, fill your time with this fluffy story about Jen, Kira, and some wings.
"Remember to Let Her Into Your Heart" by willowbilly
Say it ain't so, the trailer for the final season of Marvel's Jessica Jones is here. We'll have to wait until the episodes actually air to see how Jessica and Trish will patch up their friendship, but in the meantime you can read about them falling in love with this lovely fic.
Comics
"Happier" by jerseydevious
Fans of the film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time are counting their lucky stars after Ava DuVernay was (officially) announced to be helming the movie version of the New Gods comics along with writer Tom King this past week. The film is still in the early stages, but you can satiate your desires with this fluffy fic in the meantime.
"hope to come" by interstellarbeams
The finale of Marvel's Cloak & Dagger packed a punch and left us wondering what will be happening to Tandy and Tyrone. Season 3 will assuredly showcase a different side of this pair, and a great way to wet your whistle is to angst over this glorious fic about gaining and losing people in your life. I may have cried.
Crack!Fic of the Week
Crack!fic is a gem of the fanfiction world. Sometimes silly, other times weird, but also with a heavy dose of WTF, crack!fics are beautiful creations of boredom, sugar rushes, or a too-long hiatus. The crack!fic being featured this week is ...
"Scorbus go to Disney World" by StaircaseScorpius
This fic isn't so much cracky as it is very appropriately themed. Galaxy's Edge is open at Disneyland, and I had to wonder if there was fanfiction about the Disney parks. Of course, there was. Scorpious Malfoy and Albus Potter go to Disney. You're welcome.
