An aging Buffy fights a guerilla war against vampires in exclusive look at Buffy The Last Vampire Slayer
This December, Buffy Summers is battling more than just vampires.
You know Buffy Summers, teenage vampire slayer, and you even know Buffy Summers, 20-something closer of Hellmouths and savior of the world. Now, get ready to see Buffy as you've never seen her before: Aging, slowed down, and battling a supernatural threat unlike anything she's ever faced before.
This December, BOOM! Studios will release Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer, a new four-issue miniseries from writer Casey Gilly (Femme Magnifique) and artist Joe Jaro (Firefly) that imagines Buffy Summers in her '50s, still fighting against the forces of darkness, but well aware that her prime Slayer days are probably behind her.
Despite her supernatural gifts as the Chosen One, Buffy's age is finally starting to get to her on all those long nights of patrolling, and what's worse, now she has to do it all alone. A supernatural disaster in the past has wiped out her friends and allies, and changed the game for vampires and other creatures of the night, seemingly forever. The vamps can walk in the daylight now, thanks to a blot across the Sun, and that means Buffy's fight is far less contained than it once was, but a new prophecy's about to come along that could change everything.
In the exclusive pages below, you can get just a taste of how this new status quo has shaped The Last Vampire Slayer, as Buffy stumbles into a shop for a drink and finds much more than she bargained for. It's clearly even from this first look that the world is much different, and that Buffy's finding it hard to keep the fight going with no one to turn to but herself.

First announced back in September, Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer is the latest in an ever-growing line of Buffyverse comics at BOOM! Studios, which took over the franchise's comics license in late 2018 and launched its own flagship Buffy the Vampire Slayer series in January of 2019, complete with a rebooted continuity that would provide creators with a blank canvas. So far, in addition to the main Buffy series, the BOOM! era has yielded books like a Willow solo adventure, new Angel comics, and of course the crossover event Hellmouth. Now, the BOOM! era will include a new look to the future, and a new fight for Buffy Summers decades after her high school saying days.
Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer #1 arrives December 8. Check out more variant covers for the series below.
