Brie Larson 'deleted' Endgame spoilers from brain during Avengers shoot

Keeping Marvel’s various secrets is one of the toughest jobs of any MCU superhero. Just ask the notoriously loose-lipped Tom Holland, Mark Ruffalo, or Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson. Larson had to dive into the clandestine franchise headfirst, as she began filming on an MCU project so hush-hush that fans only recently found out its title: Avengers: Endgame. Now the Captain Marvel solo film star has explained how she coped with the responsibility of knowing what the rest of the world didn’t.

According to USA Today, Larson spent much of her Endgame shoot (which happened before she started production on Captain Marvel) forgetting everything she knew. Avengers shoots are already tough; Endgame’s was Area 51. So, to make sure Larson wasn’t going to accidentally leak anything, the actress said she had to “erase my brain” on the ride home from work.

“I just never wanted to feel like I was going to slip up or that I was going to say the wrong thing,” Larson said. “I was like, 'I can't live with myself being the one that spoils something.' So I really just deleted it. I tried my best to journal it if I want to recall it and go, ‘Oh yeah, that was a crazy time.’ "

Though even the act of journaling seems like a risky play, Larson is amped to finally be able to unload her stockpiled spoilers.

“I'm excited when the movie comes out to finally be able to talk about it and go, ‘Yes, this was crazy.’ But my family doesn't know,” Larson said. “I haven't talked to anybody about anything because I'm just a very diligent secret-keeper.”

Even when those secrets are as benign as an Avenger’s favorite lunch. Larson said she “just got to be like junior superhero and ask them questions like, ‘Hi, I’m the new kid! So what kind of protein bars do you eat and when do you train? Is your costume comfortable?’ ” As soon as fans find out how the Infinity Stones helped restore the universe to its proper state, then we’ll tackle superhero workout routines.

Captain Marvel introduces Larson’s hero on March 8 while Avengers: Endgame is out April 26.
