Artist carves gorgeous Terminator pipe that Arnold Schwarzenegger just had to smoke
When it comes to fanworks, people make all kinds of things to celebrate the media they love — be it a shot-for-shot remake of the ending of 2001: A Space Odyssey or a CGI version of the Thundercats opening theme.
One such fan took it upon themselves to pay tribute to actor Arnold Schwarzenegger in one of his most iconic roles as T-800, aka the Terminator. Reddit user u/RadonLab carved the likeness of the former governor of California in that particular role into the stummel of a wooden pipe, with one side featuring his exposed metal skeleton.
As you can see in the photo below — which was posted on Reddit a month ago — not only did the artist go through the effort of capturing subtle grooves and stretch of Schwarzenegger's skin, but they also nailed the thick lustrousness of the hairstyle he'd had while playing the character. What's more, they also went through the trouble of painting the other side, so as to more accurately depict the red of burnt skin and the hard silver of the metal underneath.
Luckily for them, the Expendables actor also dabbles on the site, and so actually saw and appreciated u/RadonLab's work, even requesting to buy it from them.
"Wow. This is fantastic," Schwarzenegger commented on the post. "It is beautiful, will you sell this to me?" For their part, the artist actually declined the offer, insisting instead, "I would like to give you this pipe. It would be a great honor for me."
However, Schwarzenegger wasn't dissuaded from finding a way to thank u/RadonLab. He then responded, "If you insist on giving it to me, I insist on sending you back a signed photo of me using it. (Now that it's 2020 I just sign things on my machine and send in [an] email if that works for you.) You can send me a message and I'll give you the details."
The exchange was a success, as the artist revealed a month later, posting the image Schwarzenegger had said he'd send him onto Reddit as proof. As promised, the actor is indeed smoking from the pipe. He even signed it, "To Radon, Thank you for the great pipe," followed by his autograph.
Schwarzenegger was no doubt thrilled with his gift, because he took to both Reddit and Twitter to post about it. "It is a fantastic gift," he commented on a tweet about the story, while on Reddit he addressed u/RadonLab in their followup post, in which they'd shared the photo and autograph: "I love it. You’re really talented, and I can’t thank you enough!" (No news as to whether he was using the pipe when he posted both times.) You can see the whole exchange below:
