Zack Snyder returns to zombie horror with first teaser for Netflix's 'Army of the Dead'
What do you get when you throw a brazen Las Vegas casino heist into a blender with some zombies? Why, you get the first flesh-eating trailer for Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, of course!
Set during the aftermath of a zombie outbreak in Sin City, the film follows a group of mercenaries (led by Dave Bautista's Scott Ward) looking to recover a butt-load of money from a heavily fortified casino vault — all while avoiding the titular horde of ghouls. The clock is against the thieves who must wrap up their mission before the quarantine zone is nuked off the map. Will their risky gamble pay off or will they go bust and lose it all? The project, which premieres on Netflix this spring, is certainly a return to form for Snyder who directed 2004's remake of Dawn of the Dead (written by none other than James Gunn) before launching the DCEU in 2013 with Man of Steel.

"It is a full-blown, balls-to-the-wall zombie heist movie, so it's genre-on-genre in a great way," Snyder told Entertainment Weekly in early January. "So you expect pure zombie mayhem, and you get that, 100 percent. But also you get these really amazing characters on a fantastic journey. It's going to surprise people that there's a lot of warmth and real emotion with these great characters."
The ensemble cast also includes: Tig Notaro, Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Garret Dillahunt, Raúl Castillo, Rich Cetrone, Hiroyuki Sanada, Matthias Schweighöfer, Chelsea Edmundson, Huma Qureshi, Steve Corona, Frank Peters, Mikey Guzman, Omari Hardwick, Theo Rossi, Samantha Win, and Nora Arnezeder.
This is a big cinematic year for Snyder, who will release his four-hour cut of Justice League onto HBO Max next month. While he's stayed busy as a producer, the filmmaker hasn't directed anything since the 2017 DC crossover flick and even then, his intended vision didn't make it to the big screen.

Written by Snyder, Shay Hatten, and Joby Harold, Army of the Dead shambles onto Netflix Friday, May 21. But the fun won't end there! A prequel movie (the Schweighöfer-directed project has already wrapped) and an anime series (featuring the voice talents of Christian Slater and Joe Manganiello) are in the works as well.
