All the sci-fi TV and movies streaming in March 2021

By Trent Moore

In the world of streaming, the superhero machine looks to keep on rolling in March with two full-on blockbusters in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and the Snyder Cut, but that's only the beginning of what we'll be watching this month.

Disney+ is stealing a lot of the thunder, with several major originals hitting streaming. First up is the aforementioned MCU series focused on two of Captain America's fan favorite partners. Then, the service is also debuting Raya and the Last Dragon, a new fantasy film that will be released simultaneously in theaters and on paid "Premier Access" for streaming. Last but certainly not least, the service has its new Mighty Ducks revival series.

Not to be outdone, HBO Max is dropping its super-sized monster movie Godzilla vs. King Kong, which promises to be one of the biggest genre releases of the first half of 2021. The move is all part of that experimental HBO Max/theatrical hybrid release plan. The streamer is also dusting off some footage from Justice League and letting Zack Snyder create his definitive, four-hour version of the DC superhero flick. Snyder exited production on the theatrical version due to a family tragedy, and is returning years later now to craft an extended cut using all the axed footage and concepts from his original script.

Amazon Prime has a new Robert Kirkman project with the first season of the animated series Invincible, adapting his acclaimed superhero comic series for the small screen. Netflix is digging a bit deeper on the original genre front, but still has a biggie that should be of interest for sci-fi fans: The new Pacific Rim animated series, following a new team of heroes taking on all those big ol' monsters we know and love. Oh, and Hulu has its new sci-fi action flick Boss Level (which is really good!). But that's not all! Peacock has Season 3 of Mr. Mercedes; Apple TV+ has fresh For All Mankind; and more!

Let's dig in.

DISNEY PLUS

HIGHLIGHTS

Raya and the Last Dragon: Disney's latest animated blockbuster is following in Mulan's footsteps with a hybrid-style release, dropping with "Premier Access" on Disney+ while also opening simultaneously in theaters. The film is an ambitious fantasy adventure featuring dragons, and stars the voices of Kelly Marie Tran, Awkwafina, Gemma Chan, Daniel Dae Kim, Sandra Oh, Benedict Wong, Izaac Wang, Thalia Tran, and Alan Tudyk.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Don't worry, Marvel fans: WandaVision is just the beginning. The next big MCU series will feel more like a traditional blockbuster, following in the footsteps of Captain America's flicks. This six-episode series will roll out new episodes weekly, which will focus on Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) in the wake of Steve Rogers' retirement after the events of Avengers: Endgame as they attempt to keep the world safe from a new, nefarious threat.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers: Yes, we realize this isn't a genre project per se — but it certainly holds appeal for adults and kids of a certain age. The long-awaited revival of the classic Mighty Ducks franchise brings back Emilio Estevez's Coach Bombay as a new group of misfits look to learn some life lessons through the sport of hockey. The original film trilogy is a kids sports movie touchstone, and Disney is definitely tapping that nostalgia with this new series.
