All the genre TV and movies coming to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and DC Universe in September 2019
There aren't a ton of high-profile originals coming to streaming this month for sci-fi fans, but there are still plenty of great shows and movies to check out — and even a bone-cracking comic series on a niche streaming service if you're into that.
Netflix is dropping its mysterious Lost meets The Cabin in the Woods-y thriller The I-Land this month, and rolling out the latest seasons of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Season 6) and The Walking Dead (Season 9) for fans looking to get caught up on what they've missed. Netflix is also adding Scream Season 3, a new batch of episodes for animated fantasy series Disenchantment, and the fifth season of Gotham. So, plenty to see on the OG platform there.
Hulu is gearing up for the launch of the fall season, and will have the Season 4 premiere of The Good Place, as well as the series premiere of Emergence, for fans who keep up with the major networks via Hulu. A new episode of horror anthology Into the Dark is also being added, along with the first season of The Purge TV series. Amazon Prime is a bit light, but will be adding American Horror Story: Apocalypse and some classic sci-fi like Event Horizon, Stargate, and Darkness Falls.
If you're a DC Universe subscriber, it's also worth noting that Season 2 of Titans is dropping in September. So dig out that login info you forgot after finishing up Swamp Thing and get ready for a new superhero binge. It'll be the perfect distraction while we wait for the Arrowverse to return.

HIGHLIGHTS
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Season 6): The sixth season took some ambitious turns, picking up the story after what seemed to be a de facto series finale in Season 5. We got a mysterious, evil version of Coulson, big space action, wild twists, and a game-changing finale that sets the stage for a positively bonkers final season. This show is as good as it's ever been.
The Walking Dead (Season 9): The acclaimed hit is going through a major transition these days in the wake of Andrew Lincoln's departure, and most of it takes place in Season 9 right here. Sure, it feels a bit different, but there are still plenty of fan favorites hanging around and lots of killer zombies (and people) to deal with. If you've been waiting to catch up, the time is now.
The I-Land (Netflix Original): This new original series finds a bunch of strangers dropped on a mysterious paradise. But things aren't nearly as warm and sunny as they seem. It looks like a tech-y sci-fi thriller, and it could be the perfect way to wrap up the summer as we head into fall.

HIGHLIGHTS
The Purge (Season 1): This USA original series focused on a few smaller stories during Purge night, bringing the successful film franchise to the small screen. Basically, if you like the movies you should dig the show. It's action-packed, a bit political, kinda scary, and the character work isn't bad at all. It's also coming back for a second season, so it's a great time to get caught up.
Into the Dark: Pure (Season Finale): This episode of the horror anthology focuses on a group of young women performing a purity ritual that almost certainly goes awry, unleashing a supernatural entity. This series has quickly become a fun complement to shows like Black Mirror and The Twilight Zone, and this episode sounds like a clever way to wrap up the season. If you dig it, don't worry, Season 2 is already in the works.
The Good Place (Season 4 Premiere): The fourth season of The Good Place looks to pick up the wild tale of the afterlife in the NBC original's final season. It's brilliant, unpredictable, and oh so good. The show is coming to an end, but we certainly hope to enjoy the ride.

HIGHLIGHTS
American Horror Story: Apocalypse: The horror anthology might be going throwback slasher in its next season, but you can catch up on last year's horror romp on Amazon. Critics largely enjoyed this season, so if you tuned out along the way, this could be a great time to jump back in.
Darkness Falls: This largely forgotten little early-2000s horror flick is about a supernatural evil causing all kinds of scares. Sure, it paints by numbers a bit, but it's still good for some jump scares. Plus, it stars Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Emma Caulfield, for a bit more throwback early-aughts action.
Event Horizon: It might've been a box-office dud at the time, but this one has only gotten better with age. It's psychologically terrifying, well-composed, and very, very scary. There's never a bad time to revisit this modern sci-fi horror classic.
