Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Clark Gregg and Ming-Na Wen tease "big and loud and badass" S6

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is the comic company's longest-running TV show, which has been complementing its cinematic universe since back in 2013. Led by Clark Gregg's Phil Coulson, the show has gone to some very strange places, lost Agent Coulson, and now, oddly, found itself stuck back with Gregg (if not Coulson). With the ABC show's sixth season rapidly approaching (and its seventh already secured), Gregg and Ming-Na Wen (who plays Melinda May) sat on the show's C2E2 panel to talk about what's to come.

SYFY WIRE attended the live stage discussion, where the stars dodged questions about the exact return date of the show (all they can say is May) and credited the show's birth to Coulson's fandom. But now Coulson is gone ... even if Gregg is still around.

"We shot that last episode thinking we were probably done as a show," Gregg said. "Then we found out we were coming back." That's why Coulson's loss and this mysterious new character's arrival were pitched to Gregg -- and he accepted. Referencing the partially spacebound trailer, Gregg mentioned his new weirdo evil alter ego, but not much else.

Wen could only discuss May's grief for fear of spoiling things, but did say that they shot Season 6 a long time ago. "I directed the first one," Gregg said. "It's big and loud and badass." Now they've moved on to shooting Season 7 since it's been secured. The workhorses continue pushing forward -- no wonder the show is still around while the Netflix shows have sadly met their end.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D returns to ABC in May.
