The Brock family moved to the small town of Kokomo, Indiana. Roger Brock was taking over a local Baptist church’s Sunday School department, and the Brocks thought it would be good for their kids to grow up in the small town environment. The family’s nightmare began one June night when sisters Lana and Lisa woke to find frost on their bedroom wall. In June. With no air conditioners. Yeah.

Roger built special bookcases in the living room for his books from the seminary. These were books that formed his spiritual life. He took great pains to make sure everything fit and was perfect, working late into the evening to finish the project. The next day, as Lana is washing dishes alone in the house, she hears a noise. Investigating, she finds one of her father’s books about to fall off the shelf. She pushes it back into place, only to have it fly to the floor as soon as she turns back around.

The twins were alone studying when James came home wearing Lisa’s roller skates. Not amused, Lisa tried to get them off of her little brother. In the middle of this fight, the kids heard a guttural, moaning growl from under the floor, and the house began shaking. James grabbed a chair to remain upright. It was definitely not an earthquake. Terrified, the kids ran outside until their parents returned home. Roger didn’t find anything to explain what the kids experienced. Lisa wasn’t even sure he believed them.

When James was home sick from school, and alone in the house, he thought he heard footsteps in the attic. He grabbed a flashlight and investigated, but found nothing. Could the footsteps have all been in his sickened head?

Lana was awakened one night by a scratching at the bedroom window. When she investigated, she came face to face with something on the other side of the window. It was hideous, and Lana was sure it was going to come through and grab her. Lisa tried to console her sister, because Lana was so frightened she couldn’t speak. Roger called the police, but they found no evidence.

It was the day of Lisa’s and Lana’s baptisms. The Brocks were happy and jubilant. They came home from the church, talking all about what they were going to do to celebrate. Everything was great, right up to the point where Roger couldn’t get the front door to open. Something had jammed it shut.

James was sent around to the back window to break into his own house and open the door. When James got to the front, though, it was insane. He found Roger’s bookcase torn apart, and one of the pieces was jamming the door shut. When his father was inside, Roger checked the house for intruders. The only things that had been touched were the books and that bookcase. If the books weren’t trashed, they were stacked in strange piles. Something wanted their attention.

Roger knew he was dealing with a demon. Not knowing what else to do, he asked one of the church’s preachers to come by and do a blessing on the house. For the first couple of days, everything felt normal.

Within a few days, James found a pair of scissors jammed into the ceiling over where Roger read his Bible every morning. Shortly after that, as Roger was reading his Bible, the ceiling fell in on top of him. Roger was battered, bloodied, and knocked unconscious.

Roger continued to pray for protection from the demon, but the demon was having none of that. One night, the demon terrorized Lana. It even tried to suffocate her. Lisa could feel her sister’s fear, but was unable to move. It was only the bark of the family dog that saved Lana. Unfortunately, that bark cost the dog its life. The demon threw it through the girls’ bedroom window.

With Roger’s blessing, both girls married their way out of the demonic house. They were free. Remaining behind, Roger’s health declined. The demonic activity continued for three years before the rest of the Brock family finally moved out to their own freedom. One year after the move, Roger passed away.
