Eternals' Kumail Nanjiani talks the troubles of wearing your first super suit
Amazing what you learn when wearing a superhero suit for the first time.
Getting the chance to be a superhero for the first time can be both extremely fun and also more work than you'd expect. That's exactly what happened with Kumail Nanjiani and Marvel's Eternals. As Kingo, the hero with the finger guns, Nanjiani got the chance to finally be a comic book character, and his first go at it had a pretty funny set of complications.
Speaking to Seth Meyers ahead of the film's release this weekend, Nanjiani revealed that while playing a superhero was a dream come true, the biggest issue came with Kingo's purple Eternal suit.
Check out the conversation below:
While the costume itself was pretty comfortable, it came with several parts required to complete the whole set. Because the setup would require some time, Nanjiani decided the easiest thing to do would be to just not use the bathroom, and to not drink liquids in general. "In the morning, if I was wearing it all day, I wouldn't have water, coffee, to be careful," he explained.
Some weeks into shooting, he came across co-star Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos) drinking some coffee while wearing his own suit. When asked about how he dealt with the bathroom situation, Henry revealed that there was a zipper...at which point, Nanjiani realized he had spent several weeks wearing the pants backwards.
"It's my first time being a superhero!" Nanjiani defended. "I just got here!" Whatever ribbing may have occurred, Nanjiani's taken it all in stride, even if it does raise some questions about how he didn't realize he was wearing the pants backwards. Not that it seems to matter, since Kingo doesn't need the suit to rock the finger guns or make it big as a Bollywood star throughout the decades.
Marvel's Eternals is in theaters now.
