Warning: If you don't want to know what happened in this episode, don't read this photo recap!
We open with Dutch alone with Khlyen in a cave in the middle of a mission. Is this a dream? Can't say. She tells him she won't let him take her and pump her full of green shit and turn her into a Level 6. He tells her it's already been done. And to prove it, he cuts her on her stomach, and she bleeds green. Hell of a way to go into the opening credits!
202465
Suddenly it's 12 hours earlier, right after the Killjoys have made their deal to team up with Turin. He's got a mission for them. A trio of Killjoys has gone missing after trying to fulfill a Level 2 salvage warrant. The really suspicious thing is that when they sent a distress signal, Khlyen intercepted it and sent them no aid. Turin wants to know if they're still alive.
202466
Dutch, Johnny, and Dav find the ship of the team of Killjoys they’re looking for. It's abandoned and covered in moss. Weird.
202467
Johnny contacts Pawter via the comm link he gave her. She's freaked out, but she's also determined to do some good while she's trapped in Old Town. We see her smuggle some kind of device out of Jelco’s office.
202468
Lucy gives Johnny and Dav coordinates to the band of Killjoys they're looking for. On their way out to find them, Dav bitches to Dutch about how much he hates having Alvis hanging around the ship. Their conversation is interrupted by people shooting at them. Which happens a lot on this show.
202469
The woman shooting at them is Tania, one of the Killjoys they're looking for. Dutch establishes trust by explaining that they have all been betrayed by the RAC, and that they're here to rescue them. Tania asks for help recovering her sister, Deena, from the mine.
202470
Down in the mine, Tania explains that the original warrant was to retrieve a monk. They didn't know why. But when the black rain came and drove them underground, Tania's husband, Paulo, went crazy and started trying to kill Tania and Deena. Meanwhile, Dav is still annoyed that Alvis is on this mission, even though, as Dutch explains, Alvis used to be a miner before he was a monk so he’s a valuable asset.
202471
Pawter makes a holographic phone call to her father. She wants him to convince her mother to send help, but her father advises that she stay put in Springhill with Jelco because it's dangerous elsewhere. Speaking of Jelco, he interrupts their conversation and seems amused that Pawter was able to steal a holo-communication device from him. He tries to charm her, but it's not working. So instead he reminds her that she has an ankle bracelet on that will explode if she tries to leave Spring Hill.
202472
Later, Jelco shows Pawter that he has a heart defect, by literally opening up his chest and showing the device maintaining his heart. Somehow, he tries to play this off as flirty. Jelco is the worst flirt ever. Pawter initially refuses to help him, but he promises to help her out as well if she can keep him alive.
202473
The Killjoys explore the stone mine, looking for Deena and Paulo. They also find weird things on the walls which Alvis explains are monk markings. Still, no one knows why the RAC was looking to retrieve a monk in the first place. They split up to cover more ground, and Dav comes across a pit to nowhere, what he called a “hellmouth.” A Quad style hat-tip to “Buffy”.
202474
Tania spots Paulo and chases after him. He tells her that they can't trust these other Killjoys, that they're trying to kill them. Tania shoots at Paulo, but by the time the other Killjoys get there, he's gone. Dutch orders Johnny to return Tania to Lucy, because they can't risk her killing Paulo; they need him alive.
202475
On the way back to Lucy, Tania thinks she sees Paulo again and starts shooting. Johnny tells her to stop, but it's too late; she's already caused a rock slide that cuts Johnny off from the others.
202476
Dutch takes the others to continue finding Paulo. Johnny has no choice but to stay put behind his rock wall. As Dutch and Alvis search on, we see a patch of moss creepily start to move.
202477
Back in Spring Hill, Pawter operates on Jelco. With an armed guard behind her, of course, just in case she feels like killing him. He's awake and flirting with her while she operates on him, which is just so unsettling. Suddenly, Pawter nicks his heart, and it starts bleeding. She hurriedly orders the guard to put pressure on his chest, but when he does, she sticks him with a needle, and even though he tries to choke her out, the toxin takes hold and he passes out. Score one for Pawter!
202478
The Killjoys find an underground temple, full of old skeleton bones and some weird symbols on the ground, which Alvis recognizes from the scriptures.
202479
Dutch sees Tania and runs after her, but before she can find her, Tania finds Paolo and he knocks her into a pit. By the time Dav gets there Tania is being set upon by the moss-covered creepy crawly things. What can they do? Well for starters they can devour your legs and then your torso and then your everything. Alvis and Dav show up just in time to witness the horror of Tania looks like now.
202480
Dutch tells Johnny that have to get out of here. She also orders him to make sense of what they've just seen. Johnny grabs the nearest hunk of moss and examines it. The diagnosis? It's not moss, it’s a moss-covered centipede. that's not all! They also possess psychotropic venom, which is how Tania was hallucinating seeing Paulo. In truth, the two skeletons at the bottom of the pit or Paulo and Deena. They've been dead for a while now.
202481
Back in Spring Hill, Pawter tries to reach Johnny via comms but can only get Lucy. Lucy plays back the message that Johnny left for Pawter, and Pawter looks touched. Lucy throws shade her way for her reaction. Pawter than spies a file with the plans for the wall around Old Town. And it's not just that either; there are plans for walls around all sorts of cities in the Quad.
202482
Johnny is still trying to figure out what the moss creatures are. Realizing that they are unkillable, Dav develops the theory that the green moss creatures are what Khlyen has been making the green Level 6 goo from. Dav also tells Johnny that Khlyen and the Level Sixes and the Scarbacks go back a while. He knows this because of one of the visions he had on Arkyn. Which explains why he's been so salty to Alvis this whole time.
202483
Speaking of Alvis, he's going off on its own, and he finds the skeleton of a dead monk behind some rocks.
202484
Meanwhile, Dutch thinks she’s spotted Khlyen and goes running after him. Dav, then, goes running after her, though he can’t catch up to her before she tumbles into a pit.
202485
And so we’re back where we started, with Dutch confronting Khlyen (or more likely a hallucination of Khlyen) in the pit. Seems like Dutch’s worst fears are that Khlyen has already turned her into a Level 6. At one point, it’s not even Khlyen confronting her, it’s herself!
202486
Johnny finally finds Dutch, in a hallucinatory state and cutting herself across the stomach. He can’t get through to her, but it turns out Alvis can.
202487
Meanwhile, the mossipedes are closing in on the Killjoys … until Dav appears in front of them. They seem afraid of him. Looks like whatever it is about Dav that allowed him to resist becoming a Level 6 has fringe benefits.
202488
Back on Lucy, Dutch gets treated for her mossipede bite, while Johnny announces to the group that he’s decided to keep a mossipede under glass. As a … pet? Experiment? Who knows?
202489
Turns out Pawter’s too much of a good doctor to actually kill Jelco. But she may have done something even better. While he was out cold, she used his DNA to unlock the bracelet around her ankle and installed it around his heart. So she gets to walk free, while he starts beeping if he gets too close to the exits.
202490
But just when it looks like Pawter is about to be rescued by Johnny and the Killjoys, she gets whacked over the head by a hooded figure. Oh, dear.
202491
Aboard Lucy, Alvis pays Dutch a visit. They talk of being able to forgive themselves for their past crimes, but he also shows her what he salvaged from the mine. It’s a strip of what looks like leather. It’s really a piece of that dead monk’s skin (ew), upon which was scarred part of a message. Some of it is what’s scarred on Alvis’ own back: "12 monks went to Arkyn to find the devil." This new strip reads “One came back.”
202492
Alvis says he’s going to hop off Lucy in Leith. There’s a monastery there where he might be able to find some answers. But, you know, since Alvis is already sitting on her bed and shirtless, Dutch goes in for a kiss but Lucy interrupts them.
202493
Dutch pays Turin a quick, unannounced visit. There’s going to be a new world order. They’re going to team up to find out what’s happening in the RAC, sure. But they’re going to do it her way.
