Warning: If you don't want to know what happened in this episode, don't read this photo recap!
It’s 1944 and a gent from the army and his lovely wife are getting ready for a night out. Until they’re murdered by two of those Messengers who were sent back in time from 2044. The Messengers take the place of the couple at a fancy army shindig at Columbia University. What could they be planning?

Back (forward?) in 2044, tensions are running high. There’s anomalies that suggest that time and space may be collapsing in on itself, Katarina and her new estranged husband/boyfriend are trying to figure stuff out, and the Cole/Ramse vs. Cassie/Deacon thing is distracting the gang from the mission: Find the Messengers!
199882
The old timey photo of Cassie and Ramse gives Ramse an idea. With Ramse's help, the team is pointed toward a T.H. Crawford, a scientist who was murdered in 1944 and who’s bones the 12 Monkeys were interested in when Ramse was rolling with them. Katarina decides Cole has to go back to 1944 and try and stop the murder. And Cassie is going with him. Before they leave, Cole asks Katarina to let Ramse see his son.

Cassie and Cole are sent through to 1944, but due to the time anomalies and the fact that two people have never been sent through together before, Cole gets there a full two months before Cassie. Not to worry though, Cole has been using this time to make arrangements to get them into the party where Professor Crawford, their lead on where the Messengers ventured to, was murdered. Cole also used the time to buy Cassie a whole new 1940’s wardrobe. #boyfriendgoals

Don’t they look smiley and happy? That is until Cassie carelessly rips the photo in half - muttering something about paradoxes. Cole looks hurt and we are too. #burn. Anyway, they head to the party where the aforementioned picture is taken in the first place.
199885
At the fancy Columbia University party, the Messenger lady gets a jump on Cassie and Cole, and already has the target, Crawford, in her clutches after enticing him with her feminine wiles.
199886
The Messengers seem to be performing some kind of ritual on the scientist, involving flowers, lots of chanting about the flowers, and some bone they stab him with. However, when they finish the ritual, something is wrong. Nothing happened! This man is not “the Primary,” but more on that later.
199887
Alas, Cassie and Cole don't make it in time to save the scientist. But they do find something shocking in his office. What is the symbol of the 12 Monkeys doing in 1944?
199888
Meanwhile, back in 2044 Katarina makes good on her word and lets Samuel visit with Ramse. This happy meeting ends not so great for Ramse when Katarina tells him that this is the last time he will see Sam. She’s gonna let Deacon kill Ramse in order to restore balance to the mission.
199889
The scientist is dead and the mission is over, right? Wrong. Turns out Dr. Crawford had a son named Thomas Crawford **Jr.** So, the Messengers went after the wrong guy. So now, Cassie and Cole just have to find Crawford Jr. before the Messengers do.
199890
… Oh. He’s in a mental institution cause he hears voices, sees visions and has a penchant for painting monkeys. Sound familiar?
199891
Cassie and Cole get to the asylum only to discover a bunch of dead bodies. The Messengers are already there. Cassie ends up finding Crawford Jr., while the Messenger woman nabs Cole and tortures him - forcing Cassie's hand.
199892
After a brief game of cat and mouse and the exchange of Crawford Jr. for Cole, the Messenger woman is finally able to complete the ritual, stabbing Crawford Jr. with his own bone brought from the future, creating a paradox. The Messenger completes her mission.
199893
Deacon takes Ramse out into the woods and makes him dig his own grave. It appears as if this could be the end for Ramse until… hey, what’re all these red clouds popping around? They’re kind of pretty. But... HOLY CRAP IT’S EATING THAT DUDE’S FACE?! Not wanting to suffer the same fate, Ramse grabs Deacon (saving his grumpy ass) and makes a run for it.
