Vanessa, Scarlett, and Axel are off in San Fransisco looking for their good friend the B'ah, and somehow manage to stumble upon the men with guns almost immediately upon entering the city. Lucky for them, these very green young soldiers are well armed and have heard of Vanessa, or someone like her, before, and for once, her reputation is useful.

Meanwhile, in Denver, Doc, Julius, Jolene, and Flesh finally gain access to the safe zone and it's odd, almost creepy normalcy. They are given clothes and a place to stay (Julius and Flesh together, Doc and Jolene together) and set out on their new challenge of finding gainful employment.

Back in Seattle, the solider boys introduce themselves to our band of heroes. They've had a rough go. The Rising happened just after they finished training and they have been trying to make due. San Francisco was safe until just a few months ago when they got hit hard and fast, and they quickly lost a lot of men. Axel agrees to join them in a mission to find some of their lost comrades while Scarlett and Vanessa keep looking for the B'ah.

In Denver, the new living situation is going ... okay. Doc and Jolene have some awkwardness due to their mutual feelings for each other and mutual unwillingness to address them. Julius and Flesh -- sorry, Phil -- are having a much harder time. Julius wants to make the most of things, but Phil has lost a lot in the past few years and he isn't about to forgive Julius for his role in all of it.

Vanessa and Scarlett go off to search for the B'ah without Axel and unsurprisingly do not have to search for long. They are quickly set upon by a gang of ninja-like vampires who are ready to flip all around the sister slayers. Scarlett has some ninja skills of her own, though, and Vanessa is no slouch, so they give the vamps a run for their money and manage to take them out, with a little help from their new friend Barry.

Barry introduces them to his friends and a small contingent of survivors. Their leader is a former weather reporter for a local news station and they are happy to share their food and their information. Like the fact that these vampires, the flippy ones, only just showed up a few weeks ago. Vanessa realizes she was set up by the Elder but they've got bigger problems when it turns out Scarlett was poisoned and now Vanessa has to face the B'ah on her own.

Back in Denver, Doc and Jolene manage to find work as a doctor and nurse, respectively, at the local hospital, which gives Doc access to a lab in which to start running tests on the blood she was given by Vanessa. Jolene, meanwhile, runs into someone who recognizes her from Seattle, and learns a little bit about the anti-vampire vaccines everyone has to take.

Doc and Jolene also have a fair amount of personal stuff to deal with. Like, you know, all those feelings the've had bubbling up since their time together before Jolene knew Doc had been a vampire. They finally face them, have a good fight, and then Doc confesses that she's never been with anyone before, and Jolene agrees to take things slow.

Axel and his new friends aren't having quite as good a time in their search for the missing soldiers. They manage to find them, but they are long dead in the worst way, and retreat is basically impossible when you're fighting an enemy you cannot see. That's right, they've walked straight into the B'ah's lair and come face to face with her without their trusty Van Helsings.

Meanwhile, unable to find the B'ah herself, Vanessa worries about a worsening Scarlett, and wonders where Axel might be. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait for next week to find out.
