Warning: If you don't want to know what happened in this episode, don't read this photo recap!
The Witness, you see, is primary. And draws a bunch of things. Much like Jennifer Goines. And the drawings are all stories from his past, present and future. And he's going to grow up and kill 7 billion people. So, Jones wants the team to be ready…
212308
One of the team is going to have to kill The Witness as a child. And by the looks of things, it's going to be his dad - Cole.
212310
Jones prepares the team to travel back with the splinter suit and an Electromagnetic Pulse Device that'll disable all electric current around them. So the team will have a window where none of the bad guys can escape. You can also sync the suits and they also can set you on fire.
212312
Deacon stops by to chat with Jones, and raises a few suspicions. Cole didn't save Ramse, and Cassie seems to be acting funny. Seems like they're holding a few secrets.
212314
Since they can't splinter with the Electromagnetic Pulse Device, Jennifer and Cole splinter back to 1953 to Raritan Laboratory to steal an early prototype of one.
212316
Cassie, meanwhile, has convinced Jones to send her somewhere else - as a favor. She's going to talk to a psychiatrist about The Word of The Witness. And that psychiatrist turns out to be…her mother. Two Dr. Raillys!
212319
Back in 1953 Magdalena is furious with the teacher of The Witness. He's been holding out on her, hiding images drawn by The Witness. And she's hopping mad. There's descension in the ranks!
212322
Cassie's mother tells her that The Witness is incredibly uncertain of himself and that he's a madman. But also that he's a genius. Also that he seems to hate the Army of the 12 Monkeys.
212325
Turns out that Dr. Railly is correct. The Witness, it turns out, hates killing the people at the ceremonies. And he's getting fed up with Magdalena forcing him to go.
212328
After Cole confesses to Jennifer that he killed Ramse, she tries to convince him he's not a killer and can make a different choice and doesn't have to kill his son. But, they're out of time! They've stolen the device and the plan is a go! Everyone in the jeep!
212331
And then…Cassie tells her mom to insist that young Cassie go to the museum with her. And she does. It's impossibly sweet. And we're not going to lie - we absolutely choked up.
212334
Jones, it turns out, has traveled through the past and learned that Cassie and Cole are the parents of The Witness. Furious and betrayed, Jones is going to hold Cassie in the lab until the team kills The Witness and changes history. Cassie, though, grabs the splinter suit and heads to 1953.
212337
During the mission, Jennifer and The Witness have a quick chat out of time. They can both see a bunch of symbols they don't understand, and share an awesome moment together. She saves his life and tells them to go.
212340
Magdalena and Cassie fight it out in the courtyard and Cassie manages to set Magdalena on fire. Which is a pretty badass move, mother to mother.
212343
And here it is. The thing The Witness has been drawing. His father pointing a gun at his head. Cole holds it. And then…can't do it. Of course he can't! But oh no! Deacon can!
212346
As Deacon nearly shoots The Witness, he's stopped in his tracks by Cassie, who SHOOTS DEACON! The two parents run to their son, but…
212349
Cassie and Cole are too late. The Witness and his teacher splinter away before they can reach them.
212352
Cassie and Cole tell Jennifer and the team that they're sorry they couldn't complete the mission, but it's their family and their problem to fix - they shouldn't be followed.
212355
That plus the fact that Hannah was injured in the fight has made Cassie and Cole a powerful enemy - Jones is now out for blood and Deacon's ready to help her.
